Day 13: Pulling Rabbits Out Of A Hat

A realistic drawing of two men on a yellow background. The man with the small moustache is the main subject of the image and is wearing a white t-shirt and his brother as a small puppet on his right hand.

'Pulling Rabbits Out Of A Hat' followed in 1984 and has the same US radio-friendly swinging your arms in a jacket with the sleeves up sound. Lyrically it's less shiny, and ts production seems more assured, including extensive Fairlight and Synclavier rental time, without overdoing it too much. Once again, there are some tunes and ideas like the title track, 'Progress' and much of side two. I'm starting to wonder who decides on the sequencing and if I'm the opposite of that. The sleeve features Russell as a puppet of Ron, which like a lot of what they do, may have meaning, but then again could just look good. For all that it didn't chart in the US or UK although 'With All My Might' was a club hit.
