Following their tour and live LP, the logical next step was to collaborate on an LP with a group of British fans. It helped that the fans in question were Scottish band Franz Ferdinand. The relationship between the bands had been formed in the early 2000s following the release of Franz Ferdinand's self-titled debut LP. Demos were exchanged but the LP was finally recorded in two weeks in 2014 after the bands both played at Coachella in 2013. There are some collaborations where you hear about them and immediately think 'oh yeah, that would work', and 'FFS' is one of them. Vocally it's mostly duets between Russell and Alex Kapranos, with Ron adding piano and orchestral arrangements to songs that, well, sound like Franz Ferdinand and Sparks that were written together and separately. It's an hour of listening pleasure that doesn't outstay its welcome. It ends, perhaps naturally, with 'Collaborations Don't Work', but in this case, well, you know.
